January Is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month
January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month—a time to focus on prevention and routine care.
Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers. Regular screenings, including Pap tests (recommended by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force every three years starting at age 21) and HPV tests (recommended after age 30), can identify abnormal cells before they become cancer. HPV vaccination is another important step in prevention and is recommended for children and young adults to protect against the virus that causes most cervical cancers.
If it’s been a while since your last screening—or if you’re unsure what’s recommended for you—reach out to your primary care provider or gynecologist for guidance.
At South Sound CARE Foundation, we’re grateful to be part of a community that looks out for one another.
