According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early and remains localized, the 5-year relative survival rate is more than 99%.
Yet for some women, barriers such as cost, transportation, distance, or scheduling challenges can make it more difficult to access breast cancer screening services.
This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re highlighting two organizations helping make breast cancer screening more accessible throughout the South Sound.
Mobile Mammo Northwest
Mobile Mammo Northwest, a TRA Medical Imaging initiative, helps address those barriers by bringing 3D mammography directly to workplaces, community events, rural communities, and underserved areas.
Through partnerships with employers, healthcare providers, nonprofits, and community organizations, the mobile coach helps make breast cancer screening more convenient and accessible.
Carol Milgard Breast Center
The Carol Milgard Breast Center is a nonprofit, patient-centered breast imaging center jointly owned by Virginia Mason Franciscan Health and MultiCare Health System and managed by TRA Medical Imaging.
In addition to providing comprehensive breast imaging services, the center offers financial assistance to eligible patients, helping ensure that cost is not a barrier to receiving essential mammography services. Their mission is to provide breast health services in an environment that fosters confidence, comfort, dignity, and peace of mind.
Additional Resources
The National Breast Cancer Foundation offers resources on breast cancer screening, what to expect during a mammogram, and programs that may help cover the cost of screening.
Prioritizing Your Breast Health
If you’re 40 or older or have a family history of breast cancer, talk to your healthcare provider about when to begin screening and how often you should schedule a mammogram.
