Supporting Safety During and After Cancer Treatment

The cancer journey involves many layers of care—treatment, recovery, emotional support, and the everyday habits that help people regain strength and confidence along the way.

During Patient Safety Awareness Week (March 8–14), healthcare organizations across the country highlight the importance of reducing preventable harm and strengthening safety throughout the care experience. This year’s theme, “Team Up for Patient Safety,” reflects something we see every day: patients, families, and care teams working together to support health and healing.

For individuals navigating cancer treatment or life after treatment, small steps at home can help support well-being and recovery. Everyday habits—staying active, maintaining good nutrition, and creating a safer home environment—can complement the care patients receive from their medical teams.

Below are a few simple steps patients and caregivers may consider.
