A Gift to CARE is a Gift to Moms Fighting Cancer

Over the years our community has truly recognized the importance of research, pushing the envelope, and embracing the idea of bringing the best that medical science has right here to the South Sound. It is incredibly satisfying to me. This is unique and special.

We have helped a great number of patients and each story is touching. I have been involved in the care of a number of women, some with young children, some with grandchildren.  The desire to live better and longer with good quality of life is universal. The men that love these women are absolutely committed. I have been so impressed with the men that support their wives in this journey. Such a commitment to try, to overcome the illness and such love and support that is shared between the husband and wife through some very tough times. It is so moving. The least we can do is our very best to help and offer the best possible.

Each time when it looks like the door is closing on options for a patient and we find an option they might otherwise not have it is a "wow" moment.  So grateful that we have our community that supports CARE, so glad we have a dedicated group of research staff to make that opportunity happen.  Just this week, a young woman with a malignant brain tumor learned that the very innovative therapy we found for her seems to be working. Scans are better, the door has opened for hope. That happens often but due to a lot of hard work on the part of our staff.

CARE is positioned to really make a contribution to cancer care. Our menu of research opportunities is growing. We have to be able to provide more access. There is the potential to bring cancer doctors together to support research for our patients. Rather than compete, we can work together for the best for our patients and take advantage of the great breakthroughs in care - including immunology and genomics - and bring them here for our friends and family.
